Plenty of developers simply copy an older success, change a few graphics and add a bigger maximum win to the promotional material. Here, you can clearly tell Pragmatic Play wanted existing Dog House fans to feel at home while still giving them enough new mechanics to justify another visit to the neighbourhood.
The Megaways format naturally creates far more dynamic sessions than the original game. Reel configurations constantly change, sticky wild combinations become even more entertaining, and every free spins round carries that feeling that things could suddenly explode after what looked like an average bonus only moments earlier. That’s one of the reasons Dog House games continue attracting players year after year—they rarely feel completely dead. Even when you’re waiting for a feature, the gameplay itself remains engaging enough to keep your attention.
Another thing we appreciated is that Pragmatic Play didn’t overload the slot with unnecessary complexity. That’s becoming surprisingly common across the industry. Some new releases almost require reading a manual before placing your first spin. Here, everything remains intuitive. Within five minutes, you understand exactly what’s happening, yet the game still offers enough depth to make longer sessions enjoyable.
Would we call it the best Dog House game ever made?
That’s still open for debate.
The original has become a classic for good reason, and nostalgia always plays a role in how players judge sequels. But if someone asked us which Dog House title we’d launch today, this would probably be our answer.
Our verdict: One of July’s strongest releases and an easy recommendation for anyone who already enjoys Pragmatic Play’s biggest franchises.
2. Heist Guys 2 (Hacksaw Gaming)
Whenever Hacksaw Gaming announces a sequel, expectations immediately become unrealistic.
That’s the price of building a reputation around hit after hit. Players don’t simply expect a good game anymore—they expect another masterpiece.
Fortunately, Heist Guys 2 gets surprisingly close.
One thing we’ve always liked about Hacksaw Gaming is that the studio understands pacing better than almost anyone else in the industry. Many developers think excitement comes from adding more features, more animations or more complicated mechanics. Hacksaw usually goes in the opposite direction. The gameplay feels clean, fast and aggressive. There’s very little downtime, and when something finally happens, it often happens spectacularly.
Heist Guys 2 continues that philosophy.
The game wastes almost no time getting you into the action. The visuals are sharp without becoming distracting, the soundtrack perfectly matches the robbery theme, and every bonus trigger feels meaningful instead of routine. We also noticed something that doesn’t get mentioned often enough in slot reviews—the game simply feels satisfying to spin. That may sound subjective, but experienced players will understand exactly what we mean. Some slots somehow manage to make even losing sessions entertaining because the overall presentation is so polished.
Compared with the original, this sequel feels more confident.
Instead of trying to reinvent everything, Hacksaw refined the mechanics players already enjoyed while making the overall experience smoother. That’s probably the smartest decision the developers could have made. Reinvention is exciting, but sometimes evolution produces a better game.
Will Heist Guys 2 become another long-term favourite like Wanted Dead or a Wild or Le Bandit?
It’s far too early to know.
But based on our first impressions, we’d be surprised if this game isn’t still appearing on “Most Played” lists several months from now. It has exactly the kind of gameplay that keeps experienced players coming back, especially those who enjoy high volatility and aren’t afraid of long sessions waiting for that one memorable bonus.
Our verdict: If you’re only going to try one new Hacksaw Gaming release this month, make it this one.

3. Yokai Tumble (ELK Studios)
If there’s one developer that quietly continues doing its own thing while everyone else competes over who can advertise the biggest maximum win, it’s ELK Studios.
That’s one of the reasons we’ve always enjoyed reviewing their releases. You rarely get the impression that ELK is chasing whatever happens to be trending that month. While other studios rush to release another Hold & Win clone or yet another mythology-inspired slot promising 25,000x, ELK usually takes a step back and asks a different question: how can we make this game memorable six months from now?
Yokai Tumble is a perfect example of that philosophy.
The first thing that caught our attention wasn’t even the gameplay—it was the atmosphere. The Japanese folklore theme could easily have become another predictable collection of demons, temples and cherry blossoms. Instead, the developers leaned into the strange, mysterious side of yokai legends. The soundtrack feels subtle rather than overwhelming, the artwork has far more personality than we expected, and the entire game has that slightly quirky charm that has become something of an ELK trademark over the years.
Of course, presentation only gets you so far. A beautiful slot that isn’t fun to play rarely survives beyond its launch month.
Fortunately, Yokai Tumble backs up its visuals with gameplay that feels genuinely rewarding. The bonus features don’t appear simply because modern slots are expected to have them—they actually fit naturally into the overall experience. Every time we triggered a feature during testing, it felt like the game shifted gears instead of simply switching into another standard free spins mode.
That’s becoming surprisingly rare.
One thing we’ve noticed while reviewing dozens of new slots this year is that many developers seem afraid of simplicity. Every release needs another modifier, another collection mechanic or another expanding reel feature. Sometimes that works. Quite often it just creates noise. Yokai Tumble avoids that trap. 4. Le Prechaun (Play’n GO)
It’s funny how certain themes never really disappear from online casinos.

Egypt refuses to leave.

And, of course, Irish luck continues producing more leprechauns than Ireland itself probably remembers.
Normally we’d roll our eyes when another developer announces yet another slot built around shamrocks and pots of gold. The theme has been done to death. That’s why our expectations going into Le Prechaun weren’t particularly high.
Then we actually played it.
What surprised us wasn’t that Play’n GO managed to make an Irish-themed slot look good—they’ve always been excellent at presentation. What surprised us was how polished the pacing felt from beginning to end. The game never seems rushed, but it also never drags. Every feature arrives at the right moment, animations remain smooth without becoming excessive, and the overall experience feels remarkably balanced.
That balance is something Play’n GO rarely gets enough credit for.
Unlike some developers who seem determined to create the most volatile game imaginable, Play’n GO often focuses on keeping players entertained for longer sessions. That’s one of the reasons titles like Book of Dead remain so popular years after release. They simply feel enjoyable to play.
Le Prechaun follows that same philosophy.
There aren’t constant fireworks on every spin, but there’s always enough happening to keep you engaged. Every time we thought we were settling into an average session, another feature or modifier appeared to change the momentum. Those little shifts make a huge difference over time because they prevent gameplay from becoming repetitive.
After several sessions, one thing became increasingly obvious.
This isn’t necessarily the slot you’ll remember because it produced the biggest win of your month.
It’s the slot you’ll remember because you unexpectedly spent forty-five minutes playing it without once thinking about switching to something else.
That’s probably one of the highest compliments we can give any modern slot.
5. Crystal Robot (Backseat Gaming)
If someone had asked us twelve months ago which smaller software provider might surprise the industry, Backseat Gaming probably wouldn’t have been our first answer.
Today, it absolutely would.
The studio has improved at an impressive pace, and Crystal Robot might be the clearest sign yet that Backseat Gaming is beginning to find its own identity.
One thing we’ve learned after reviewing hundreds of slots is that originality isn’t always about inventing completely new mechanics. Sometimes it’s simply about combining familiar ideas better than everyone else. That’s exactly how Crystal Robot feels.
The futuristic setting immediately grabs your attention, but what kept us spinning wasn’t the artwork—it was the rhythm of the gameplay. The bonus features arrive naturally, the volatility feels exactly where we’d expect it to be, and the game constantly creates those little moments where you think, “One more spin.”
Every experienced slot player knows how dangerous those three words can be.
That’s usually a sign that a developer understands pacing.
Backseat Gaming also deserves credit for not trying to imitate the industry’s biggest names too closely. Yes, you can spot influences from Hacksaw Gaming or Pragmatic Play if you look hard enough, but Crystal Robot never feels like a copy. Instead, it feels like a studio that’s gradually becoming more confident in its own direction.
We genuinely believe this developer deserves far more attention than it currently receives.
Will every Backseat Gaming release become a hit?
Probably not.
No developer has that kind of success rate.
But if Crystal Robot is an indication of what’s coming over the next year, we’d strongly recommend keeping an eye on everything the studio releases.
Sometimes it’s worth discovering tomorrow’s big provider before everyone else does.
Our Verdict
After spending the last few weeks reviewing July’s biggest slot releases, one conclusion became impossible to ignore.
The competition has never been stronger.
A few years ago, one outstanding release could dominate casino headlines for months. Today, developers are producing high-quality games at such a rapid pace that staying relevant has become just as difficult as creating a great slot in the first place. That’s fantastic news for players, but it also makes recommendations more meaningful because not every new release deserves your time.
If we had only one evening to spend playing new slots, we’d probably start with The Dog House Megaways 1000. It feels like the complete package—a familiar franchise that still manages to evolve in interesting ways. We’d then move straight to Heist Guys 2, simply because Hacksaw Gaming continues understanding modern high-volatility gameplay better than almost anyone else.
For players looking for something a little different, Yokai Tumble offers originality without becoming complicated, while Le Prechaun reminds us why Play’n GO remains one of the industry’s most consistently reliable developers. And finally, Crystal Robot earns its place not because Backseat Gaming is already a household name, but because it genuinely feels like one of the industry’s most promising rising studios.
